School audiences

Since its opening to the public, in the 19th century, Museu do Ipiranga established a strong connection with formal education. On remembering the Museum, many visitors associate it precisely with a visit made at school, during their childhood or adolescence.

This program focuses on educational proposals for these audiences: teachers and students of various age groups and schooling stages (Kindergarten, Elementary School, High School, Youth and Adult Education, and Higher Education).

For teachers, regular training courses are offered, related to the themes of the Museum’s exhibitions. Resource materials for educational actions developed in the classroom are also provided. The purpose is to expand the possibilities of communication between the Museum and education professionals from public or private schools, promoting the development of distinct pedagogical proposals and the incorporation of the discussions based on the Museum’s collection. In addition, the program intends to approach and sensitize formal education professionals about the pedagogical potentials of working in museums. The educational materials developed can be viewed below, in the Downloads area, and are also distributed during the face-to-face training meetings.

For students, educational activities are offered that explore the Museum’s exhibition spaces through thematic choices, considering the Brazilian Common National Curricular Base as a reference. During the educational visits, the Museum’s educators try to interact with the groups, working with proposals that combine different exhibits. There are different educational proposals for every age group, and during the visitation reading paths are built based on the pieces in the collection, in a dialogue with the visitors’ points of view.
