The building was constructed between 1885 and 1890. In 1895, the newly created State Museum (Paulista Museum) was transferred to the monument.<\/p>\n<p>That&#039;s how the histories of S\u00e3o Paulo&#039;s oldest public museum and the Independence Monument became intertwined, and since then it has been known as the Ipiranga Museum.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our objects, research, and cultural activities address multiple aspects and experiences of the daily lives of millions of Brazilians.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2025, we will celebrate 130 years of operation as a space that questions and welcomes, open to listening and diversity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the Ipiranga Museum, reflecting on the past is an invitation to think about the
