Built between 1885 and 1890, it was designed as a monument to the Independence of Brazil and never served as a residence. At that time, Ipiranga was a sparsely populated region, consisting of small farms and rural areas near the old road that connected S\u00e3o Paulo to Santos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A walk along the Esplanade, through the garden and along the Ipiranga stream, shows how this landscape has been modified. The route continues to the Casa do Grito (House of the Cry) and the streets Bom Pastor and Xavier de Almeida. The Casa do Grito helps to understand forms of construction and occupation prior to the urbanization of the neighborhood. The mansions, old factories, and other buildings show how industrialists, workers, and families from different social groups came to occupy the region.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maps, photographs, plans, models and paintings related to the exhibitions. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To understand the Museum<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imagined pasts<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> e <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A history of Brazil<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> These sources help to compare different moments in this landscape.
