The guided tour“"Territory in transformation"” It invites the public to observe how the construction of the Ipiranga Museum and the changes in the city have transformed the neighborhood's landscape over more than a century.
At the beginning of the tour, the group learns about the history of the building that now houses the Museum. Built between 1885 and 1890, it was designed as a monument to the Independence of Brazil and never served as a residence. At that time, Ipiranga was a sparsely populated region, consisting of small farms and rural areas near the old road that connected São Paulo to Santos.
A walk along the Esplanade, through the garden and along the Ipiranga stream, shows how this landscape has been modified. The route continues to the Casa do Grito (House of the Cry) and the streets Bom Pastor and Xavier de Almeida. The Casa do Grito helps to understand forms of construction and occupation prior to the urbanization of the neighborhood. The mansions, old factories, and other buildings show how industrialists, workers, and families from different social groups came to occupy the region.
