Museum Garden – landscapes and portraits of a living structure: drawing workshop with Paulo von Poser

Gardens are democratic spaces in city building. In them, we carry out the most diverse activities: leisure, sports, rituals, observation, care for plant species, and the cultivation of human relationships. And, contrary to the human insistence on seeking stability, gardens are landscapes in constant transformation. They adapt to the seasons and life stages, traversed by stories, everyday moments, and others that are memorable. It is possible to observe these changes both in the detail of a falling leaf and as far as the eye can see.

In this edition of the Heritage Journey, we invite the public to view the Independence Park Garden — or the Museum Garden, as it's affectionately known — as a living, ever-changing structure. Through drawing, we will explore the visible and invisible marks that make up its history. The activity will begin with photographs from different moments in the garden's past: from the period before the first design in the early 20th century, through its 1922 layout, successive adaptations over the decades, and the restoration carried out in 2022.

We also invite participants to bring their own photographs, memories, and experiences. Together, we will share insights, stories, and perceptions about this space that continues to transform, preserving in its landscape the traces of the past and the encounters of the present.
