Ipiranga Museum

LIBRARY

The Paulista Museum Library was established on September 7, 1895, coinciding with the inauguration of the Museum itself, and today it serves as a support center for scientific research at a university history museum.

Its long history has allowed it to include valuable works in its collection, especially on the History of Brazil and the History of São Paulo. In the last twenty years, it has acquired a specialized profile in the area of... History of Material Culture, in areas such as History of Consumption, Sociology of Objects, Visual Culture, History of Taste, Cultural Heritage and Collecting, in the field of Studies of Objects and Iconography Clothing, Furniture, Porcelain, Toys, Weapons, Numismatics, Photographs, Paintings and others – and in the field of Museology in their areas of expertise in Collection Documentation, Conservation and Restoration, Exhibition Design, and Museum Education.

Its collection includes 39,831 books and 39,019 periodical issues, and it also houses the Library of the Republican Museum of Itu, which specializes in the study of the Brazilian Republic between 1889 and 1930.

It is integrated into the USP Library System (SIBI/USP) and SIBINet, and is available through Dedalus – USP Bibliographic Database. www.usp.br/sibi
