The preservation of cultural collections requires consistent practices in document management, curation, and prevention. To deepen this knowledge, the Museu Paulista of USP is promoting the first edition of the extension course "Preventive Conservation of Collections – Module 2: Collection Management".
Between October and December 2025, the course will bring together professors and specialists from the Museu Paulista of USP, the Museum of Contemporary Art of USP, and the Institute of Brazilian Studies of USP. These are leading professionals in documentation, curatorship, preservation, and preventive conservation. The training is aimed at professionals who have already completed Module 1 and who work in museums, archives, libraries, and cultural institutions.
The methodology combines asynchronous classes, synchronous online meetings, a technical visit, and a final hybrid meeting, encouraging the practical application of the content in the participants' workplaces.
The course will cover topics ranging from the curatorial cycle, acquisition policies, and professional ethics to documentation practices using controlled vocabularies and databases, including preventive conservation applied to documentation, the quality and organization of storage spaces, as well as the preparation, transport, and monitoring of artworks and collections.
