Textile art in patchwork, The concept of domesticity, traditionally associated with the domestic and feminine sphere, is the starting point of the lecture. Textile art in patchwork and sociocultural expressions, which is part of the cycle Meeting with Research. Taught by Professor Cristiane A. Fernandes da Silva, a tenured professor at the Institute of Social Sciences of the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), the presentation proposes a reflection on the place of patchwork in the field of arts and their connections with Brazilian material culture.
The meeting analyzes screens produced by Brazilian Club Patchwork e Quilting from São Paulo, relating them to sociocultural and political elements that constitute the national reality. The event also includes the participation of the curator Benigna Rodrigues da Silva and the artist Wagner Vivan, both members of the Club.
The lecture presents research results developed by Cristiane Fernandes during her postdoctoral studies at the Museu Paulista, under the supervision of Professor [Name]. Vânia Carneiro de Carvalho, Between 2019 and 2021, this research will invite the public to reflect on the production and circulation process of textile canvases and on the questioning of the so-called "minority" of applied arts.
