Reflecting on our history allows us to understand how memories were shaped, and how they can be transformed.

On November 25th and 26th, the Ipiranga Museum will hold the International Seminar on Whiteness in Question: Challenges to Decolonizing Memory and Museums, a meeting that brings together leading national and international researchers to discuss the role of cultural institutions in the construction and reproduction of historical narratives.

The seminar invites the public to discuss how whiteness and hegemonic views have shaped collective memories, broadening perspectives on the history, culture, and diversity that characterize societies worldwide. The program proposes a dialogue between museums, memory, and decoloniality.

This initiative is a joint effort of the Museu Paulista of USP, the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), the Center for Latin American Studies (University of Pittsburgh), and the University of Exeter, with the support of the Fundação de Apoio ao Museu Paulista (FAAMP).

Participation is free and participants will receive a USP certificate.
