The operation of a museum involves much more than exhibitions and guided tours: there is a complex management of buildings, services, and personnel that ensures the preservation of heritage and the public's experience. This is the universe that will be addressed in the lecture. Behind the scenes at the Paulista Museum: challenges and perspectives of operational management., taught by Marcus Vinicius Rosário da Silva, architect, urban planner, and doctoral candidate in Architecture and Urbanism at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism and Design of the University of São Paulo (FAU USP).

The presentation discusses the application, in museum contexts, of Facility Management (FM), a management model that integrates people, processes, and spaces to ensure functionality, safety, comfort, and efficiency. Using the Ipiranga Museum as a case study, the researcher shares the results of his investigation into the management and operation of museums in historical buildings, focusing on planning, maintenance, sustainability, climate change, and the use of emerging technologies such as IoT (Internet of Things(Internet of Things), Big Data and BIM (Building Information ModelingBuilding Information Modeling (BIM).

The lecture takes place in the month that marks the 130th anniversary of the opening of the Ipiranga Museum to the public, offering reflections on its history, the challenges of integrated management, and the opportunities for cultural institutions in the face of environmental and technological transformations.

This event is part of the cycle. Meeting with Research, an initiative of the Museu Paulista at USP that promotes monthly meetings throughout 2025, always on Saturdays, bringing the public closer to the research carried out using its collections.
